Today is exactly five years to the day since I shifted to JB. Five years ago, there were very few western cafe in JB city centre and the quality of food was at best average but nowadays foodies are spoiled for choices. Cafes like The Replacement Lodge and Kitchen have mushroom across the city centre. However natural selection dictates that only the better cafes will survive the high rental city area.
I love the minimalist, clean and uncluttered design of The Replacement Lodge and Kitchen whenever we drove past the lane so today we went there to see if the food is just as good. We ordered The Breakfast Platter (RM 29.90) and B&B French Toast (RM 18.90). The Breakfast Platter serving was rather large, the scramble eggs was milky and buttery, it accompanied the slightly salty chicken sausage well. The tomato based mixed bean was sweet, sour and peppery, very appetizing and it goes well with the toasted bread.
B&B French Toast was another good choice. The bread in the photo looks dark cause it was covered with melted sugar. The outside was crispy and the inside moist, even the banana was caramelize. The bacon tasted more like beef jerky and was lined with very little fat (i love it!), making this sweet and salty combo an interesting treat.
The menu look rather limited but I guess it allows the restaurant to specialize and perfect their dishes. This seems to be the trend in JB cafes.
If you are wondering why the place is named The Replacement Lodge and Kitchen, It’s because they have five rooms on the second floor for short term rent through AirBNB.
